Cryohazard
I was lucky Enough to get a free Key from the devs, I am not paid for this review
Cryohazard is a spooky turn based roguelike where you are the conductor of a train.
As you go through you navigate a map, unlocking and lore of whats going on in this cursed world.
The game was developed in 6 months by BossyPino.
The music in this game is absolutely a bop. Like in El dorado, I forgot to speak and just vibed to the music a lot while playing this game on YouTube. The artwork is cute but creepy, making immersion very easy.
The combat is surprisingly complex for how simple the game is. Each turn you get 1(?) movement and each cart on your train can take 1 action. So if you have 1 enemy on your back car and 1 on your middle car you could shoot the middle car, accelerate, (pushing the middle enemy to the back car, so now you have 2 on your back car) and then shoot the back car.
Using these mechanics BossyPino managed to create a surprisingly stressful game. It's very easy to make a mistake on one turn and feel overwhelmed when the next wave of enemies show up.
As far as bugs go, I really only encountered 1 bug through my playthrough, I moved and attacked faster than it seems like the enemy fully updated and I ended up wasting one action. Not detrimental but I do feel cheated out of that damage.
As far as the story goes, I am still working on that. I know that some world ending event seems to have happened with "the storm of souls" and your character is trying to go through the storm to meet someone else. There are these beacons that you must aquire to unlock what Bossy's website calls the "true ending." And since I am shit at games I have yet to do that. Will update here when I eventually do.
The game is short, taking me about 2 hours to get through to the "end" once. Had I realized the Beacon's importance it seems I might have been able to get the "true ending" in about 2-3 hours.
Overall this game is a fun, short experience I could see getting a little old fairly quickly. For 6 months of 1 mans work, I would say its worth the $4.99 USD that he asks for it on steam and I am excited to see where Bossy goes from here.
9/10
Minor potential to encounter bugs.
